When Ben and I were driving through Geelong on our tour of Philip Bay, I saw this sign and took a picture to send to our friends.
Turns out, they all saw the same thing. So we exchanged a round of duhs and bought tickets immediately. Beer festivals in Australia are a little different than those in the USA. Here you buy admission and also tokens to sample the beer. In the USA, you but admission and then just sample the beer. Needless to say, it turned out to be a bit of a spendy day, but we had fun.
Despite my age, I’m still not a huge beer fan. Luckily, Australia also has a ton of cider and ginger beer breweries! I definitely found a couple that I really enjoyed and a couple I really hated. Friends in America, if you come across Pipsqueak or Little Miss Muffet cider, give them a try! If you see Ninja Sista ginger beer, avoid it – yuck.
There was also a beer cabaret tent where we caught a quick show. The girl performing was hilarious and totally made fun of Geelong in all the same ways that we all want to. She may have made some people uncomfortable, but I laughed the entire time. If I were to become a cabaret girl, she is who I would be. If you get the chance to see Virginia Poppycock, do it!
